Ditching my Instagram blog and joining Steemit was the best decision I made in 2018.
I have earned a lot of money and a great reputation on the platform since then. If you are a blogger or a content writer like me then immediately join Steemit. You are going to thank me later for introducing you to such a great opportunity.
Unlike traditional social media, there’s no secret algorithm to grow on Steemit.
I have written a beginner’s guide that will walk you through the steps of getting started on Steemit and earning money through it. Here you go:
1- Introduction
Steemit is a blockchain-based social media platform where users can earn cryptocurrency by creating and curating content. It’s a decentralized platform which means it is not controlled by any single authority. Rather it is maintained by its users. It’s different from other social media because there’s no third-party involvement. In simple words, it is secure, keeps your data private and you are your own boss.
2- Creating an Account on Steemit
Creating an account on Steemit is a simple process just like any other social media. You just have to sign up with your email address or phone number and a unique username.
After signing up, you will receive a 26-character-long password which will be your Master Password. You will also receive a PDF file containing a couple of more passwords/keys for different purposes like posting, voting and transactions.
Warning: Never lose your Master Password. Without it, the account cannot be recovered if your other keys get stolen or lost.
3- Understanding Steemit’s Rewards System
Steemit rewards its users with crypto tokens which are STEEM, STEEM POWER and STEEM-BACKED Dollars (SBD). The main cryptocurrency here is STEEM. Others are its derivatives.
The two main ways of earning rewards are:
- As an Author – create content
- As a Curator – vote on others’ content
The author can earn STEEM, SBD and STEEM POWER on his/her content.
The curator can earn STEEM POWER by curating(voting/supporting) others’ content.
4- Creating Content on Steemit
You can write about anything on Steemit as long as it follows the Proof of Brain concept. It means to be creative, and unique and always write in your words. Plagiarism and AI content are strictly prohibited.
To earn rewards, you must get votes from other users. Just like on other social media, you get likes. The only difference is that likes on Steemit have monetary values. (:
The more the influence of your voter on the platform, the more monetary value his/her vote will bring.
5- Engaging with the Steemit Community
To grow on any social media, you have to engage and network. No matter how great your content is, if you don’t support or engage with other content creators, you will not get visibility. It is as simple as that.
Rule of thumb: Comment and vote on others’ content no matter how little influence you have on the platform. In the beginning, your vote’s worth will be zero but you should still vote to show support.
6- Tips for earning more on Steemit
There are multiple ways through which you can earn more on Steemit. There are two most respectable and legit ways that can not only help you earn more but will also grow your influence on the platform.
- High-quality content and Engagement always attract curators
- Build your STEEM POWER which will increase the value of your vote
You can self-vote to earn rewards but it is considered unethical.
You can use the earned STEEM and SBD and even exchange them for your local fiat currency. But it is recommended to avoid cashing out your STEEM POWER. Because it will lower your influence.
7- Wrapping it Up
If you love to write and interact with like-minded people on social platforms then there’s no better place than Steemit. Why? Because you can earn rewards for your content and even for your comments. You can also reward others without spending anything from your pocket. How cool does that sound?
So what are you waiting for? Sign up on Steemit and get lost in a whole new but better world.
